FIGURATIVE

The human figure occupies a central position in Pranav Kaushal’s practice.

His figurative works explore the relationship between individual identity and the social environments that surround us, with particular attention to femininity, social conditioning, inequality, vulnerability and liberation.

The figure is often rendered with restraint and precision, while the surrounding environment becomes increasingly expressive and gestural. This contrast is deliberate: the controlled figure represents the individual self, while the surrounding field reflects the pressures, contradictions and complexities of the world in which that individual exists.

Kaushal’s understanding of human anatomy is fundamental to this process. The structure, movement and physical presence of the figure are developed through disciplined observation, while colour, gesture and mixed media allow the surrounding environment to become psychological rather than literal.

The resulting works place the human figure at the emotional and conceptual centre of the composition, creating a dialogue between the individual and the world surrounding them.
